Body Geometry Bike Fit
Being properly fitted to your bike is one of the most crucial factors affecting your cycling performance. A proper fit is just as valuable to a recreational cyclist as it is to an Ironman athlete. Being correctly fitted to your bike will not only increase your cycling performance, but will also help reduce the risk of injury and premature fatigue. Anyone riding more than 30km’s at a time should consider getting a bike fit done.
Here at Fat Duck Cycles & Espresso we offer Body Geometry Fit, the most comprehensive fitting system on the planet.
About Our Fitter
Melina is our Certificate-2 qualified BG Fit technician. This qualification was gained through multiple training sessions at Specialized Australia HQ in Melbourne. This included a 3-day, 1-on-1 training with Dr Andy Pruitt, the founder of the BG Fit system.
Melina knows the value of a proper bike fit, having completed 9 Ironmans and currently in training for her 10th. She was also entrusted by Specialized to complete a BG Fit for Olympic Triathlete Ryan Bailie.
A BG fit is a 3 hour intensive fit that comprises of five components; Pre-Fit Interview, Physical Assessment, Ride Analysis, Fitting Session and Follow Up.
Every cyclist has a different level of riding experience and goals to reach, meaning that each cyclist’s fit will be slightly different. The pre-fit interview will help build a picture of what you need from your fit in order to reach your cycling goals.
An 18-step process is used to measure your current levels of flexibility and the individual make up of your body. This resulting data provides an in depth guide for your Fit technician to best specify your bike position, customisation and necessary equipment.
The ride analysis is an in-situ visual assessment of your riding position. This allows your Fit specialist to adjust accordingly in order to determine the best and most efficient rider position for you.
The fitting session is a 15-step process in which the Fit Specialist will personalise your bike position and equipment choice. The end result is a saddle selection and position, shoes, footbeds, cleat position and handlebar position that are all optimised to your body.
In our opinion, this is one of the most important steps in any fitting system. We want to be sure that your new fit is helping you get the most out of your bike and helping you achieve your cycling goals
At the conclusion of the fit, the Fit Specialist will schedule a follow-up to review your adaptation to the new position, answer your questions, and provide guidance on how to get the most out of your ride.
“I just finished the best club ride of my life! Everything worked a treat, ride position was more natural and comfortable, energy expenditure was more efficient, power transfer was more direct, aero position was easy to attain and hold, just an all round better ride! It feels like a brand new bike and a whole new rider!” – Adam Taylor
“I would like to thank Melina Townsend for the recent BG bike fit I had done at Fat Duck Cycles. Melina was really thorough in the way she went about the fit, particularly how she tested my flexibility in the physical assessment, this made all the difference. Most of us want to be at a maximum aero position and sacrifice the comfort. Melina found the balance between the both of them, and it made such a difference in racing for me. I would highly recommend to anyone to go straight to Fat Duck Cycles for a BG fit session.” – Buck Cockman
“I flew to Western Australia from the United States to compete in Ironman Western Australia as a guide for a blind athlete. Normally, when I race as a guide, I make some quick adjustments to the saddle/stem height, and I'm good to go. This time, however, I just couldn't get comfortable.
Thankfully, we had the bike shipped to Fat Duck. When I learned that they were a BG fit shop, I was overjoyed. Within an hour, Melina was able to make adjustments to my cleats and body position that allowed me to ride comfortably for the entire 112 miles. Thank you to Melina and the entire Fat Duck team for enabling me to perform at my best! When I race as a guide, it isn't my race, which means that my performance matters even more. If you've never gotten a proper bike fit, I strongly encourage you to get a BG fit from Fat Duck Cycles!” – Caroline Gaynor
